How to Remove Ketchup Stains from a Khaki Pants.

Ketchup! What can I say about Ketchup, it is America’s favorite condiment unless you’re Asian American then its Soy Sauce. That’s a different article for another time. Now we are focusing on ketchup. Ketchup! Ketchup! Ketchup! What ingredients are in ketchup? Tomato’s, vinegar, sugar and oh yea, water. Knowing the ingredients helps with the stain removal process.

Vaska Laundry Detergent:

• Create a spotting solution of 1 part Vaska laundry detergent along with 5 parts water.
• Apply this solution directly to the ketchup stain.
• Tamp (tap) with a brush to help the solution penetrate into the stain.
• Let the solution penetrate for a few minutes.
• Launder as normal.

Heinz White Distilled Vinegar:

• If the first steps did not achieve adequate results then continue by applying Heinz distilled white vinegar to the ketchup stain directly.
• Tamp (tap) the stain lightly with a soft brush (toothbrush) to help the vinegar penetrate into the ketchup stain.
• Leave the vinegar on for a few minute to penetrate.
• Launder as normal.

Bio Kleen Bac Out Enzyme Stain Remover:

• Another product to use on a ketchup stain is Bio Kleen’s Bac Out enzyme stain remover, found in your local grocery store.
• Apply the enzyme stain remover directly to the ketchup stain.
• Enzymes take time to work so apply the product a let it rest for 1-2 hours.
• Reapply if the stained area starts to dry out.
• Launder as normal.

Repeat these steps again if necessary.

Before attempting any stain removal it is important to test the item for colorfastness. Take a white towel and apply a small amount of the product to a corner of the towel. Using that corner of the towel blot a hidden area of the item you wish to spot. Check the towel for color transfer.

It is always best to remove the stain as soon as it happens; while the stain is wet it is much easier to remove. The longer you wait the more difficult it will become, the stain will set and oxidize over time.

Seek professional help if necessary. If you have a good relationship with your green dry cleaners they will be more than happy to help you with stain removal and cleaning questions.

Wow – I love this place.  I spoke with Karl, the owner, on the phone first about cleaning my wedding dress.  It’s not just any wedding dress – it was my grandmother’s from 70 years ago!  I didn’t even have it cleaned before I wore it for fear that the silk satin fabric would be compromised.  The fabric is beautiful and has held up well, yet it’s still super sleek and delicate.  Karl assured me that he would take a look and offer his best opinion.

Right away, Karl put me at ease and let me know that they would do a delicate wash and that we would take a look at the result before considering boxing it up to the preserved.  It was ready in a week and when I went to look – I couldn’t have been happier with the result.  The fabric was all in tact and the stains gone – even some of the ones that were from my grandmother!  I wasn’t even hoping for that!

The dress turned out great, and I am so happy that we never had to treat it with chemicals.  I definitely decided to have it preserved, and I look forward to keeping it in the family for another 70 years.

And, the best thing was that the price was totally affordable.

I have relied on these cleaners for….. 10 years? Longer probably. They are very friendly and keep customers in a computer database to make keeping track of your items easier. I’ve never been so sloppy as to get a stain on my clothes that they haven’t been able to get out!

Also they are very quick and good on their tailoring. A friend of mine had a dress that needed a little stitching reinforcement work. I told her to go to Sunshine. She dropped the dress off at 3PM and picked it up at 6PM the same day, just in time to wear the dress to a cocktail party that evening.

They are always polite, do a wonderful job, get the clothes to you when promised and are always done beautifully!  I love that they aren’t cleaned with chemicals.  The alterations have been great, too.  I highly recommend this place!  They now have “green” dry cleaner bags.  They’re like the bags you would use at the grocery store.  When you drop off your dry cleaning, you drop off your  reusable dry cleaning bag and it’ll be covering your clothes when you come back to pick up.

Wow!!! Green Dry Cleaning. I’ve been using them for years, they offer a great value for the service and quality they provide. I have always been worried about dry cleaning my clothes with chemicals but since I have to dress well for work there was no choice. Since they offer green dry cleaning I’m a customer for life. From what I was told they don’t use any hazardous chemicals and it is environmentally safe. In these times of chemical awareness why would any one knowingly wear clothes that have been cleaned with chemicals (toxic or not). Its a great feeling to know that what I just got back from the cleaners won’t kill me. It doesn’t have any  chemical smell and it feels clean.

Hey- I just read that review about leaving money in some clothes and it getting stolen- are you for real? Perfect dry cleaning and I love the wash and fold.

The GREATEST thing ever happened on a Saturday evening, 10 minutes before closing when I rushed in straight from the store with a new pair of pants and begged to have them pressed. He said yes. Yay! Instant gratification.

I arrived about 3 minutes past closing to pick them up. (Please forgive.) He didn’t yell at me or throw my pants on the ground and stomp on them. Instead, he handed me my pretty pair of perfectly pressed pants. And didn’t charge me. Astonishing.

The second greatest thing was the mini lint roller stocking stuffer I got with my holiday dry cleaning.
