How to Remove Ink Stains made from a Uniball Pen.

How to Remove a Ink Stain made from a Uniball.

Sad but funny. We’ve all seen it, a geeky guy walking down the street with a HUGE dark ink stain around the corner of his Giorgio Armani shirt pocket. Yes, another guy put his Uniball Pen in his pocket without putting the cap back on.

Don’t laugh ladies; I’ve seen that same ink stain on the corners of your expensive Gucci purses as well.

Straight ink from a Uniball Pen is difficult to remove. A small dot on your garment is highly concentrated with ink and as soon as you start to work on it the ink will spread out of control.

  1. Fold a paper towel several times to make a thick absorbent pad and place that under the ink stain.
  2. Make a ring 2” larger than the ink stain on the unstained area of the garment with the Dawn Dishwashing Liquid.
  3. From there continue to saturate the garment including the ink stain with the Dawn Dishwashing Liquid. This will help lubricate the unstained material so the ink will not stain the unstained area
  4. Use a small scrapper or brush to work the Dawn into the ink stain for a few minutes.
  5. Add a few drops of water if necessary. This will cause the ink to break up and spread.
  6. With a paper towel blot up as much of the Dawn and ink as possible.
  7. Repeat steps 1-6 several times until the ink no longer transfers through to the paper towel underneath.
  8. Wash as normal.

Any residual ink after washing will need to be stripped off with a non chlorine bleach. Sodium Perborate – Oxo Bright or OxiClean, Sodium Borate – Borax will work well.

  1. Follow the directions to create a soaking solution in a bucket.
  2. Use as hot of a water a material allows.
  3. Soak garment for several hours or overnight.
  4. Wash as normal.

Items should be evaluated and tested for colorfastness. Seek Professional help if necessary.
