How to Remove a Lipstick or Lip Balm Stain.

How to Remove a Lipstick or Lip Balm Stain.

Lipstick, Blistex, ChapStick, Bert’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, and many other types of lip balms are normally comprised of the same basic ingredients. There is usually some type of oil, wax and color pigment. The oils in the lipstick are encasing the other ingredient so once we break down the oils the rest of the ingredients will dissipate along with it. I can’t say if the most popular brand of lipstick is made by Revlon, Cover Girl or Lancome, but I can say that a sexy red lipstick seams to be the most common color we see comes through our green dry cleaning stores.

Always evaluate the stain, colorfastness and material before proceeding. If the color of the garment is sensitive or the material is delicate you must modify your technique.

Oil based stains can be easily removed with a good oil remover.

What is an oil remover you ask?

Dawn Dishwashing Liquid is a great oil remove because it is designed to remove oils from your dishes. There are other degreasers on the market made with natural citrus based products. But I like this one because it works well and everyone has some readily available in the kitchen.

Simple Green is a Stronger Degreaser. DO NOT LET SIMPLE GREEN DRY ON THE GARMENT. Keep in mind that Simple Green is green in color and may permanently stain the garment green.

Finish by cleaning the entire garment as recommended by the care label.

Seek professional help if necessary. If you have a good relationship with your green dry cleaners they will be more than happy to help you with stain removal questions.
