How to Remove a Milk Stain from a Rayon Vest.

Milk is one of the more difficult stains we see come through our stores. By the time we see the milk stain it has dried and set. Milk is a protein with a strong bonding agent and as it ages it requires a lot of effort to remove. Keep in mind it is always best to remove the milk stain as soon as it possible. While the milk stain is wet it is much easier to remove than after it dried. So don’t procrastinate.

Fresh or recently dried Milk Stain:

Create a spotting solution of 1 part laundry detergent and 5 parts water.

If the stain starts to dissipate repeat the same steps or skip to Finishing Up.

Aged Milk Stain:

Enzyme Stain Remover: found in the cleaning department of your local grocery store.

Or soak the garment for several hours for an extremely difficult milk stain.

Repeat these steps again if necessary.

Before attempting any stain removal it is important to test the item for colorfastness. Take a white towel and apply a small amount of the solution to a corner of the towel. Using that corner of the towel blot a hidden area of the item you wish to spot. Check the towel for color transfer, the amount of color transferred onto the towel will give you an indication of the amount of color loss that will occur during spotting or cleaning.

When done removing the stain always finish by cleaning the entire item per manufacture care instructions. Even benign spotting agents such as these will oxidize and yellow over time.

Seek professional help if necessary. If you have a good relationship with your green dry cleaners they will be more than happy to help you with stain removal and cleaning questions.
