Fine red wine should always be savored with a fine meal not worn on a garment. However if you happen to spill a little because you have a tendency to talk with your hands, don’t worry. Address the red wine stain as soon as possible. Red wine will set and oxidize over time.


Red wine is a tannin stain derived from a fruit. pH neutral or acidic stain remover work the best on this type of stain. Most over the counter stain removers are alkaline based.

Test First: in a hidden area apply the product to a white towel and dab in a hidden area of the garment. Check the towel to see if any color has transferred over. If the color is sensitive or the material is delicate you must modify your technique.

Regardless of the product you used it is important to dry clean or wash the entire garment after completing the stain removal process. Any of these products residues will age and oxidize over time and cause yellowing or discoloration.
