How to Remove Hot Chocolate Stains.
General Info: Regardless of the hot chocolate manufacture whether it’s Nesquik, Hershey or Swiss Miss, most hot chocolates contain chocolate, sugar, and some form of milk. The heat from the hot chocolate will cause it to penetrate deep into the weave of the material so attending to the stain sooner is better than later.
How to test for colorfastness: Take the stain removal product and apply small amount to a white towel. Take that part of the towel and blot a hidden area of the garment to see if color transfers over to the white towel.
First step: You can easily blot off a fresh hot chocolate stain with a dry towel as soon as it happens. Follow that by blotting it with a wet towel, and then again with a dry towel.
Like many stain once you let it dry it becomes more difficult to remove.
Need Help: Once the hot chocolate stain has dried you will need to resort to products to remove it.
Vaska Laundry Detergent:
- Create a hot chocolate stain spotting solution with 1part Vaska Laundry Detergent with 5 parts water.
- Apply the hot chocolate stain spotting solution directly to the hot chocolate stain.
- Tamp (tap) the hot chocolate stain with a brush.
- Wait a few minutes.
- Blot the hot chocolate stained area with a wet white towel, followed by a dry white towel.
- Repeat again if necessary.

- Apply the Bac-Out directly to the hot chocolate stain.
- Tamp (tap) the hot chocolate stain with a clean brush.
- Wait a 1-2 hour. Do not let the Bac-Out dry. Reapply if necessary.
- Blot the chocolate stained area with a wet white towel, followed by a dry white towel.
- Repeat again if necessary.
Finishing Up:
Once the chocolate stain dissipates dry clean (wet clean) or wash the garment per manufactures care label. It is not advised to leave spotting agents on a garment for long periods of time as it will age and discolor or yellow.
