The Dirty Little Secret About Dry Cleaning!

No one in the industry is willing to admit to the health hazards of solvent dry cleaning. Most dry cleaners clean your clothes with a solvent called perchloroethylene (PERC) which the State of California lists as a known carcinogen and reproductive toxicity. Others use alternative solvents and call themselves “Green or Organic”. Yet, studies have shown that these alternative solvents are questionable. The San Francisco Environment has published an article containing the health effects of each solvent:

Pacific Heights Cleaners leads California with our non-toxic Eco-Dry Clean (wet clean) system. California in turn leads the United States and the world, which is why we are especially pleased to have been invited to Germany in December 2009 to visit the equipment and product manufacturers and meet with their top executives to share our knowledge, experience and ideas to improve the process.

In leading the change in our industry, we have set our standards high, well above superior service and quality. Dry Cleaning with a certified non-toxic system is only a small part of being a responsible business. Giving back is just as important. That’s why we have reached out to partner with non-profits in our community such as Zero Breast Cancer to help create awareness of the health and environmental hazards of dry cleaning solvents as well as working within our industry to train and convert other dry cleaners.  Working together, we can make a difference.
